Unstable Illusions artist talk over Zoom this Sunday with Andrea Lewicki
Come hear me talk about how the place I grew up shaped my artist brain
Since early October I have been working on an artist project that includes a window art installation in Seattle (made possible by Seattle Restored) and a bunch of writing I’ve wanted to share with you. The project is inspired by my childhood neighborhood as remembered through faulty memories. Once conceived of as a oasis full of promise under the dazzling sunshine of the Southwestern US, the community materialized as a small cluster of decaying pre-fab houses in a windblown desert with few amenities in sight.
For a topic I know so well and have written so much about in my personal journal, organizing the collection into a logical structure has been difficult. While that continues to percolate and develop, I’d like to share the visual component — a series of six collaged houses representing the landmarks of my early life — and invite you to an artist talk over Zoom this Sunday. I’ll talk about how I connected the collage process to what I remember from life as a 5-year-old and explain some of the oddities of being surrounded by mostly nothing.
First, the logistics:
Sunday, December 10, 10:00am (Seattle time)

Second, here is the installation as seen at night:
Third, here are some appetizer images.
And lastly, a time-lapse of the install. Thanks to my friend and fellow artist Liz Ruest for assistance!
Hope to see you over on Zoom on Sunday! It won’t be recorded but there will be a second, more public artist talk in January.
